Yes, well I think this guy I painted yesterday sums up my current mood perfectly. It’s been a long and productive working year and now it’s time for some well-deserved R&R over the fast-approaching festive season.
Somehow, when December hits, it’s like the body knows it really needs a rest and a break from the daily routine. That must be why I was drawn to paint this beautiful woodland creature with his snout tucked so serenely into his tail. What a beauty! His lovely oval shape also appealed to me and the wonderful mix of colours in his fur.
I made use of the wet-in-wet watercolour technique to get the colours to bleed together in his tail and then added the darker ivory black later. This was effective in conveying the soft bushy tail-fur. The palette used consisted of Winsor & Newton, Cotman Watercolours in: cadmium orange, raw sienna, cadmium red, Payne’s gray, raw umber and ivory black.
These high quality watercolour paints definitely make a difference to the finished product and it’s worth investing that bit of extra cash in these products. Their quality shines through!
