My sister loves seahorses

Louise K Tucker
Lately, I’ve really really felt like painting again. I must be honest, I’m not the most patient person when it comes to waiting for the results of my efforts. I always want to see the end result as soon as possible, and of course, painting requires a good deal of patience.

I must be forgiven this time though because I wanted to try different techniques involving salt, toothbrushes and splatters! I also painted in a much looser and more fluid style than I normally use which I think suited the subject matter and the medium down to a tee.

The results were, I feel, effective and I was quite pleased with my version of a long-snouted seahorse in watercolour. I wasn’t the only one who liked it, though! My sister has a passion for seahorses and the colour blue. Once she spotted this little painting she very sweetly asked if it could join her existing collection of seahorse paraphernalia. So, my painting found an instant home and I’m sure my sister will enjoy looking at it!

  • Searching for cuteness

When is something considered cute?  I guess it’s different for all of us.  For my sister, Samantha, if something (usually an ornament or a soft toy) is round, chubby and smiling, she finds it ultra cute and consequently it finds a treasured place in her home. It’s a standing joke in our family that “Sammy…

  • Hibernating Hazel Dormouse

I had such fun painting this little hibernating hazel dormouse. I loved how he was curled up in a little round ball with his fluffy tail lying over him. His bed of fallen leaves in autumnal shades of orange, umber, ochre, greys and blacks makes the perfect contrasting background to his soft, fat furry body….

Don’t Give Up!  These words, immortalized in song by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, are also my mum’s favourite trio of words whenever I get dispirited. And the funny thing is – they seem to work.
