If you go down to the woods today, you’re probably more likely to see these guys than a group of teddy bears having a picnic! Oooh, I’ve got the song stuck in my head now – along with some lovely childhood memories.
You only find the grey squirrel where I live, and I know they’re not everybody’s favourite garden friend. They have a habit of eating almonds and other lovely produce that’s taken a very long time to grow, and was supposed to be exclusively for human enjoyment. But I love them! It’s wonderful to see them scurrying through the trees or running across the lawn. Sometimes they look as though they’re playing a game of tag and jump wildly from branch to branch, appearing to defy gravity.
The red squirrel has the most wonderful colour fur and I just adore the tufted ears!
I so enjoyed painting the grey squirrel that I tried my hand at capturing his more vibrant cousin. Which do you prefer: red or grey?

We have grey squirrels in my garden. My wife’s crazy about them and is always pointing them out to me when she sees them.
They are adorable, Jack. I think your wife and I would be friends 🙂
